Product Summary of Polyimide (PI)
For the purposes of our catalogue we refer to the thermosetting (does not melt) version of polyimide. This superb high performance material has a combination of excellent physical properties, excellent electrical insulation, wide operating temperature range and superb radiation resistance. However, this generally comes at a price, as Polyimide (PI) is generally one of the most expensive polymers commercially available. It also suffers from poor hydrolytic stability (poor resistance to steam) and poor resistance to strong alkalis. Although one version of PI is claimed to be not as susceptible (please ask for details of this grade).
Characteristics of Polyimide (PI) include:
- Excellent thermal stability
- Good electrical properties
- UL94 V-0 rated
- Good radiation resistance
